Upon its anticipated release, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 was considered a high scoring product by reviews from all over the world. However, several reports claim that the batteries used in the phone were prone to explosion, resulting in a global recall of the device.
The issue occurs when faulty devices are being charged. An investigation determined the problem is with the battery itself, as opposed to the power adapters and circuitry.
The phone company stated that 35 cases of the fault had been reported to date. According to Samsung, only 24 in a million phones are affected by the potential fire risk, which equates to about one for every 42,000 sold.
This will be the highest-profile recall on a consumer-tech product in history. Over one million phones must be replaced at a significant cost, including the halt in sales at a time when it was still being released globally.
As far as the recall plan for the United States, the major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile) have already provided information on what they will do for customers. Generally, users can exchange the device for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge, in addition to replacement of any Note accessories and a refund of the price difference. Samsung is also offering a $25 gift card or bill credit from “select carriers” when switching to a new device through the replacement program
